Monday 23 September - Day in Livingstone

Nice leisurely breakfast before the briefing on the Toyota Landcruiser (called Lander) and route planning by AJ and Gene from Safari Drive at 10am. This took 2 hours including Ian doing a very short test run up and down the driveway to Nkwazi Camp.  After a quick beer we headed into Livingstone with the intention of having some lunch and doing some shopping but got sidetracked and ended up visiting Vic Falls and missing lunch.

Parked by a marauding troop of baboons who really just wanted to sit in the shade our our vehicle. Changed some dollars into Kwatcha so felt a bit more comfortable having some local currency, then headed into the Zambian side of Vic Falls. Took a different route to the one we had gone on 4 years ago as we didn't want to just retrace our steps. Despite there being very little water in the river the views were still magnificent.

We stopped for a quick lemonade at the kiosk in the park making use of our newly obtained currency before heading into town to go shopping at Shoprite. This took much longer than planned - very basic choice and kept having to walk round the aisles to find essentials.  Even had a short power cut which are clearly the norm at the moment due to the impact of the drought on the Zamebzi hydroelectric plant.  Despite the power cut we were still surprised to emerge from the shop to find it was going dark outside and the sudden realisation that we had a 40 minute drive to do having only signed the declaration to say we wouldn't drive in the dark 5 hours earlier.  Thankfully we arrived back safely just in time for a lovely dinner of Zambezi Bream.
