Sunday 22 September - Arrive in Livingstone

So excited to be back in Zambia - it is 4 years since we were last here. How time flies! The journey was long and tedious but mainly caused by an 8 hour stopover in Heathrow Terminal 3. There is nothing to do there except have lunch and drink beer, which we did!

We definitely chose the wrong queue for the Kasa Visa, our queue went down twice as slowly as the other one, but we finally made it through, collected our luggage and headed out into the heat of the midday sun.  We had of course completely forgotten to change any cash so now had no Kwatcha and would have to find a way of changing money before our return to Zambia in a couple of weeks time as there was no guarantee we could change money at the border in Kariba.

Even though we had been to Livingstone before much of the drive to Nkwazi Camp seemed unfamiliar but we did eventually recognise the finally part of the journey as the lodge turned out to be next door to Waterberry Lodge where we stayed last time.  We arrived mid afternoon and had time for a quick dip in the pool and a beer.  The tent was well equipped with a small kitchenette and decking overlooking a pond with loads of birds and beautiful plants.

We even had a sighting of Cape Clawless Otters from the bar decking before jumping aboard their boat for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi.

Watched a lovely sunset and saw elephants, giraffes, hippos and storks along the banks of the river - not bad for our first evening.
